Week 7

We chose a new brief (Cruise Ship to Cable Car) in week 6 and were put into new groups from there.

We completed a site analysis of the Cable Car Lane on Lambton Quay:

Opportunities

• Shuttle bus takes cruise ship passengers to Brandon Street (off Lambton Quay)
• Cable Car is the biggest tourist attraction in Wellington
• Cruise ship passengers get themselves within 200 meters of Cable Car Lane - lack of successful signage or sense of place means they walk passed it - often ask surrounding businesses (Countdown and Storm, etc.) where the entrance is
• The Luxe Festival light feature was left running after it was installed in 2017 and has been very popular

Opportunities

• Side of building looks like a ‘1’
• Stairs from Block 2 lead to, and frame the new main entrance of Block 1
• Heavy foot traffic passes this building - with no knowledge of an entrance
